Divine guidance

Divine guidance can come to us from anywhere and in any number of ways. We've all had experiences such as seeing something that seemed to speak directly to us written on a sign along the highway, or perhaps we overheard a conversation or heard someone on the radio say something that seemed to be a message directed squarely at us. Maybe we've even had the perfect right book we needed to read fall off the shelf in front of us at the library or bookstore. But whatever way it comes, we don't always pay attention to the messages we are receiving. When we don't heed those messages, we often live to regret it and end up looking back with a lifetime of remorse over something we wish we had said or done differently. This week's show is a continuation of last week's discussion about angels and how they not only step in to protect us but how they help provide guidance when we need it, even if we are not heeding their messages. Our guest is Barb Adams, host of Radio Amerika now (www.radioamerikanow.com)., a live radio show that broadcasts on Saturday nights at 9:00 p.m. Mountain Time on the Genesis Radio Network.

While angels and references to them have been with us throughout history there has been an increased interest in them in the last century. An amazing number of books with the word angel in the title were published between 1890 and 1925, and in the past few years, we have seen a huge resurgence of this phenomenon. Why now? Why is this happening at this time in our history? As the world grows more and more complex, we are becoming more aware of the need to seek spiritual help to do all the work that needs to be done to straighten up and clean up our world today But our need for protection and intervention from angels is not just something that is happening now. Throughout recorded history, there have been well documented stories of unexplained rescues or interventions by spirit beings. Our show focuses on "angel" stories that clearly demonstrate that there are unexplainable forces out that that step in just at the right moment to help us in times of need. Our guest is Barb Adams, host of Amerika Now, a live radio show that broadcasts on Saturday nights at 9:00 pm Mountain Time on the Genesis Radio Network.

Full Circle

Throughout our lives people and come and go. While there may be some reason why we are connected at a certain place and time, when that reason or purpose ends it is not unusual for people to drift apart. While most of these partings are comfortable and end without any drama or emotional upset, others are more unpleasant and stressful and can leave lingering regrets that stay with us over the years. Our guest this week is Kathy Shorten, and her personal story emphasizes how life sometimes comes circle and we are given another chance to make something right. Kathy discusses how a regrettable incident 18 years in her past had stayed with her unresolved over the years, but had a remarkable, surprising and unexpected resolution.

PTSD of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is something we hear about frequently, but unless it affects us personally or someone we know, we may know much about it. This is a condition that profoundly effects a person's ability to function normally or have any sense of peace or well being in their life. While PTSD is a complex conditions, the simplest explanation of it is that it is like having your natural fight or flight response stuck in fast forward. The more scientific explanation of it is that fear is a natural response, and when we are actually going through a life threatening situation, an area hidden deep inside the brain known as the amygdala triggers the automatic protective reaction we know as fight or flight. PTSD is thought to be an abnormal activation of the amygdala. While we commonly associate PTSD with war veterans it is not limited to them. It can happen to anyone as the result of a terrifying event or ordeal during which severe physical harm actually happens or is threatened. On today's show Judith discusses the Veterans Stress Project and how EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is providing relief for thousands of people suffering from both PTSD and many other stress-related disorders.

Bella Spark

Too often what we dream of when we are young goes by the wayside because life intervenes and those dreams start fading away. We learn to accept less than what we want, and tell ourselves that's just how it is. But sometimes something monumental or catastrophic happens that jolts us out our of our lethargy. This is what happened to Donna Visocky. Donna’s daughter Kristi died in an automobile accident in 2003 and it was her passing that propelled Donna on the soul journey she is pursuing, and through personal stories and examples shares the things she has learned along the way. The theme for today's show is that It is never too late to realize your dreams. Donna's message to all of us is that the dreams that you brought with you when you came into this world are calling you still, waiting to be born in new and imaginative ways. Whether you have been inspired to make a change or change has been forced upon you, this can be a time of great exhilaration. Donna is the founder of Bella Spark Productions, which is one of the top metaphysical and consciousness-raising organizations in the US and includes Bella Spark Magazine, a popular publication throughout northern Colorado. No one truly wants to be alone especially at the end of their life, and If you were to ask the question what do you most fear, for most people being abandoned and alone isgoing to be somewhere right at the top of the list. As humans we are social creatures and we came into this world hardwired to interact with one another. When we become isolated and our ability to interact is gone, the results are often disastrous. Loneliness is no respecter of ages and itoften has nothing to do with being alone. When we feel this deep sense of disconnection and isolation from others, we can be surrounded by crowds and still feel unbearably alone Our show this week pinpoints how loneliness and isolation at any age can lead to depression, alcoholism and even suicide, which is becoming rampant in our society. Our guest is Randy Mergler, a marriage and family therapist who has worked with people struggling with any and all of these issues and has experienced some of them himself.

Shortcut to a Miracle

We tend to view miracles as something that happens to other people in some other place, usually having to do with some miraculous healing or religious vision. Yet events that can only be construed as miracles happen around us every day. We live in a world of miracles and we also live in a world of natural law and order. What we may not realize is that the same laws that produce the natural order of things also produce what we consider to be miracles--those wondrous and unexpected events that occur seemingly out of nowhere for no explainable reason. But what if we can create our own miracles? The truth is, we can and we will be discussing how that can happen. Our show this week features Linda Potter, a spiritual practitioner who teaches a class entitled "Shortcut to a Miracle," based on the book by the same name authored by Michael C. Rann and Elizabeth Rann Arrott. The next "Shortcut to a Miracle" class is being held, Tuesday evenings, 6-9 pm., Sept. 10 - Oct. 29, with a one-day workshop on Saturday, Sept. 21. For more information, contact Linda Potter through her website (LindaMPotter.com), or email her directly at www.lindampotter.com.

Intuition, Inspiration and Creativity

This week's show focuses on intuition, inspiration and creativity and how these things all link together. There is nothing that is human made that did not exist first in someone's mind. The human mind is constantly active and creative, thus it is literally impossible for us to go through life without ideas. Ideas often just spring into our head, but where do they come from and what inspires them? Often ideas are the result of our intuition, but how can we learn to tune into our inborn intuition and trust what it is telling us? Judith's guest this week is Veronica Lee, an intuitive, mentor, speaker and writer who began her work in the mystical realms as a young child when she learned about hands-on healing, meditation, visualization and manifesting. In June, Veronica was one of 30 Experts in the OMTimes & Gaiam TV 30 Day Conscious Living Challenge in which she offered inspiration and tools on how to “Reclaim Your Powerful You.”

US Independence Day

In honor of the July 4th holiday coming up this week, our show focuses on the concept of patriotism and what it really means to be a citizen of the United States. In today's world we are quick to bash government on all levels and to chafe under what we may see as unnecessary laws and regulations. So many people complain about too much government, but on the other side of that coin, there are ways the U.S. government protects us that we rarely think about and simply take for granted. Judith shares her experiences traveling the world and describes what can happen to us when we are far beyond the reach of U.S. laws and standards. Her guest is John Albright, who is retired from teaching American history at Colorado State University. John explains why and how our government was set up as it is, and why it is unlikely we could ever experience a brutal, repressive regime such as North Korea or Syria in our own country.

The Sandwich Generation

This week's show focuses on some of the problems we encounter when faced with having to care for elderly family members. This is an issue that is particularly impacting a group of people who have become known as the Sandwich Generation. The sandwich generation primarily applies to middle aged people and even baby boomers who may still have children still at home or in college and whose ageing family members are over the age of 70. Many people who anticipated enjoying retirement instead find themselves caught in the middle of caring not only for their children but their elderly parents as well. It often becomes a juggling act that inevitably puts strain, not only on the caregivers but those being cared for as well. Our guest is Randy Mergler, an elder care and family therapist who helps families address and come up with workable solutions to this problem.

Learning to live again

People naturally live in relationships, and when those relationships end, deeply rooted feelings and attachments are not cast aside simply by a death certificate. Yet those who have not experienced a catastrophic loss often assume that after a few weeks have passed, the one grieving should already be over it and have moved on. No matter how well intentioned they are, so many people make tasteless and hurtful remarks that can make the situation even worse. However, anyone who has ever gone through deep grieving knows that it can take months or even years to get life back together. Unless they have experienced it, people do not understand what grief is and how it can literally tear you apart both physically and emotionally.

Our guest this week is Judy Brizendine, author, blogger and speaker, and she is passionate about her mission, which evolved out of tragic loss. Judy lived through the horror of unexpectedly losing her husband of 29 years, and thanks to her faith and sheer determination she has managed to come out on the other side. She tells her story with the hope it will help others. Judy's website is stunnedbygrief.com

How I Cured Myself of Breast Cancer

Hearing a diagnosis of cancer is one of life’s scariest experiences and can be a defining moment in our lives. Our immediate reaction is to start thinking the worst and succumbing to fear. Or, we may go into denial, earnestly believing that this cannot possibly be happening to us. But the reality is that it is happening, and one way or another we are forced to cope with it. There are various decisions one must make and what treatment option, if any, we are going to accept. When faced with this decision, our guest, Kathy Shorten, chose to take a different route than the standard treatment of chemo and radiation. Diagnosed with breast cancer, Kathy went on her own solitary journey to find alternatives and found them. Our show this week features her story and how she ultimately triumphed over her cancer.

Keeping Your Life in Balance

In one way or another, both men and women today are coping with has become known as Superwoman Syndrome but should actually be re-named Super Human Syndrome. This is exactly what it says it is—someone who tries to do everything and be all things to everyone, all at the same time. While it may never have been our intention, out of necessity many of us have become jugglers—trying to keep six, seven or eight balls in the air all at the same time in an attempt to keep our life in balance. This may work for us in the short haul, but can rarely be sustained for an extended period of time. Super men or women tend to set standards that are far beyond reasonable and the inevitable result is burnout and exhaustion. Our guest today is a professional who provides workable solutions for those caught in this trap. Sharon Teitelbaum is a certified, trained, and experienced Work-Life and Career Coach located in Boston, MA and she is also the author of a book entitled Getting Unstuck without Coming Unglued.” More information about Sharon and her work is available at http://stcoach.com.

Getting Your Feet Back Under You When Life Throws You a Curve

Change is something we face every day and often the changes are so subtle they come and go, often unnoticed in the distractions of daily living. But then there are those block-buster changes that are really life transitions, and they require reflection and inner re-orientation to work through and resolve. Transitions are times of letting go of the past and crossing from the old and familiar to something new and unfamiliar. Transitions and the disruptions they cause may force us to re-examine our values, beliefs and lifestyles and change how we see the world. Our topic this week is getting your feet back under you when life throws you a curve. Our guest is Rachel Lane, a board certified life coach who helps people get through these major life changes and re-build their lives afterward. Rachel is also a certified financial planner, and for the past 12 years she has been helping people make smart financial decisions, especially after a divorce or other life changes that can impact their income or bank account. Although prosperity and success means something different to every single person, we generally associate both of these with money. If we are successful we have money, and if we have money then we must be successful. This is like a dog chasing its tail but the truth is that underneath it all, true success and prosperity is not really about money—money may be both the driving factor and the result, but it is not ultimately what feeds our soul. This week we will be talking about how we can be our own worst enemies and stand in the way of our own prosperity and success. Our guest is Deberah Bringelson, a nationally recognized Business Development Expert, Certified Master Wealth Consultant, and Certified Advanced Law of Attraction Specialist. Mothers’ Day is the time when we honor our mothers and acknowledge all they have done for us, but not everyone has had a wonderful childhood or a kind and nurturing mother. This can be a tough holiday for those who come from an abusive background and never had the love and nurturing they needed in childhood. Back with us this week is Dale Bach, a motivational speaker from California and the author of Mamma Trauma. Dale suffered through an incredible amount of abuse as a child at the hands of her mother. In spite of the long-ranging affects of this, she has been able to overcome it and heal her life through deep spiritual work and by helping others find joy. The need for creative expression is one of our most basic human needs, but far too many of us have suppressed that part of ourselves (or had it suppressed for us), and as a result we are living our lives primarily in a “half-brained” world. This is our topic this week and our guest is Marianne Mullen, a creativity coach from Vermont who helps people rediscover and develop their naturally creative nature. More information about Marianne and her work can be found at www.awakencreativity.com/
