I was born in New Orleans, La. The first three
years of my life were spent living in Children's
Hospital due to birth abnormalities. I was
born without a right arm and at 9 months old
my right leg had to be amputated. My left
arm is half the length of a normal length
arm, but none of this has ever STOPPED me.
My family raised me just as any other kid
in my family. The labels cripple or handicapped
were never used to describe me...EVER!
I
started this mission October 1, 1992 when
it was first called "The Second Wind
Club." My main focus at that time was
helping local homeless shelters and sending
poetry cards to Children's Hospital for their
patients. In 2005 hurricane Katrina happened
and relocated our family to Texas. Although
the experience was HORRIBLE it turned out
to be a true blessing in the end. I sat down
with a friend of mine in 2007 and came to
the conclusion that I would no longer allow
the lack of compassion of others to stop me
from doing what I was destined to do. After
a few hours I had a new name for our mission
(http://Afiveoh4uplifting.org) and an entirely
new game plan.
It
was only right that we gear the mission to
create goody bags and uplifting mail for all
children & adults with major illnesses,
disabilities and for children living in homeless
shelters. My life has been a truly blessed
one and it's only fitting that I share my
blessings with others. With my family and
great friends by my side we have built this
into something truly wonderful and we hope
you will soon join us in this effort.
