Meeting Hatred and Shamanic Practice

Hatred is a luxury we do not have. It costs too much, eventually destroying all that truly matters and leaving the soul lost as collateral damage. What can we do to reverse the rising tide of hatred in the United States? Using our shamanic skills we can draw on our helping spirits to support us in small, everyday acts to shift the story playing out around us. For the more experienced practitioner we can engage in large acts of ritual, healing, and ceremony that reach the very source of the hatred and focus the power of transformation there. Join host and shaman, Christina Pratt, as she explores the small, subversive daily acts that allow each of us to engage hatred where we meet it and the larger shamanic acts needed to disengage today’s hatred from the historic roots that nourish it. Large and small, it is work we must all engage in or we have learned nothing from history. Hatred ultimately costs us our souls.

Shamanic teacher and author, Christina is a skilled healer who weaves her authentic shamanic experience, extensive training, and experience with shamans from Ecuador, Nepal, Tibet, and Africa into her contemporary practice. She has been in practice for 20 years, specializing in soul retrieval healings, soul part integration and ancestral healing. She is the director of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, Oregon.

Pratt’s unique gift is creating effective and transforming healing rituals for contemporary people in contemporary communities. She is a teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, bringing the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her four-year training in focuses on the practical use of shamanic skills to mature spiritually, to find ones individual true purpose, and to express that purpose fully from the heart in joy and without apology.

She is the author of An Encyclopedia of Shamanism, (Rosen Publishing) available for purchase at her website. Her popular weekly Internet radio show, Why Shamanism Now?, podcast archives can be found at iTunes .

"In the age of 'new-age-pixie-channelled-authentic-extraterrestrial- Native-American-Mayan-prophecy-reiki-rainbow-crystal-shamanism' it is delightful to find an intelligent book with a grasp of what shamanism really is and I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to actually study the real thing. It's not going to teach you it all, but it's going to give you a good eclectic breadth of knowledge about this world of amazing traditions. And for me I am personally delighted to be able to put it on my book shelf... and it saved me the trouble of writing it too!"
Nick Breeze Wood, Editor, Sacred Hoop, Issue 57, 2007

"On the whole, I was impressed by Pratt's personal understanding of diverse shamanic trance methodologies and ceremonial traditions, and her ability to explain those practices in unambiguous language. In fact, I was often touched at how she manages to deftly turn seemingly conventional statements into insightful teachings."
-- Timothy White, Editor, Shaman's Drum

"...this is not your typical compendium of facts and field research but a reflection of (Pratt's) deep belief that shamanism is 'a valid healing modality that is effectively practiced throughout the world.' …there is nothing else like it."
Shift Magazine: New & Noteworthy, Dec 07-Feb 08, No. 17.

Imagine having the following dream: A spider appears, tells you that you need an "ego death", and then rips you to shreds. You might think that was a bad thing. You'd be wrong. If you look up "spiders", "ego death", and "dismemberment" in your handy-dandy Encyclopedia of Shamanism, you'll discover that, shamanically speaking this dream is in fact a powerful gift from the Spirit. Intrigued?

The inclusive two-volume Encyclopedia combines the philosophy, concepts, and practical elements that make up shamanism. With over 750 in-depth entries, organized A-Z, the Encyclopedia of Shamanism contains essential information about shamanic methods and practices across cultures, ten introductory essays that clearly discuss the basic concepts of shamanism, bibliography, and cross reference index. “I want to thank you so much for your previous radio show on grounding. I am a dedicated listener, and have had two powerful, amazing soul retrieval sessions with you. …I love all of your shows, but this one in particular, with its visualization and direct teaching lead by you was so powerful and visceral in addition to being theoretical. The grounding visualization is changing my life already as I ask myself each time I get fragmented, "who's life do you want to be living?" Elana S, USA
